As a community networking site, CommON-VC helps scattered groups and individuals who are working for positive change to find each other, learn about each other’s activities and strengths, and to offer mutual support and assistance for social change activities and events. What are the benefits of becoming an active member of CommON-VC? CommON-VC welcomes both community organizations and individuals as members. Each member of CommON-VC may use the CommON-VC website to create a network member page that describes themselves in five major ways: their main focus, interests and affinities, the support that they can offer to others in the network, their geographical location, and of course their name and contact information. Together, the member pages form a searchable database of organizations and individuals through which each member will be able to search for and contact other members using five major identifier categories. CommON-VC members can also connect using the network bulletin board, network-wide events calendar, discussion groups, and enjoy the ability to send event invitations and other information blasts to all members of the network or to a selected subgroup. |
Will CommON-VC be a Safe and Productive Networking Space? Yes. Internet communities can be locations of connection, friendship, and new possibilities. Yet the internet can also be a place of hostility, disruption, and surveillance. Membership in a CommON-VC is open to any group or individual who wishes to take part in positive social change and grassroots democratization in Ventura County and beyond. However, CommON-VC is not intended as a space for hate, aggression, or other less-helpful intentions.
